The Agenda 21 for Schools in our Centre

2003 2004 academic year:

Information via the CEIDA to teachers’ meetings on School Agenda 21.

Setting up of a teachers’ committee on the Agenda 21 for schools.  This is formed by at least one representative from each Educational Level.

Participation in meetings of the Municipal Forum.

2004/2005 academic year:

Extension of the teachers committee of the Agenda 21 for schools.  This is formed by at least one representative from each Educational Level.

Participation in meetings of the Municipal Forum and training courses.

Information provided to the Management Team, Staff of Teachers and the Schools Council on the work of the Commission.

Organisation of occasional activities with students.

Presentation of a project to the Environment Department of the Basque Government 05/06.  The subject chosen is sustainable mobility and is presented for students to study at all educational levels in the School. The project is supported by the decision-making bodies of the School.

Status report…

2005/2006 school year.  12 schools (about 8000 students) are taking part in the Municipal Forum.

The project is presented to the Environment Department of the Basque Government, approved and put into motion.

Participation in the coordinating meetings of the Municipal Forum.

Information on the Agenda 21 for Schools and the mobility project in the Educational Community: students, parents and teachers

Signing of an undertaking to develop the Agenda 21 for Schools by the highest representatives of the Town Hall and of the School.

Setting up of the Environmental Committee of the School.

Establishment of objectives and indicators and planning of activities.

Evaluation and information for the authorised bodies of the School for the Municipal Forum and the Plenary Meeting of the Town Hall.

Representatives of the entire Educational Community
Parents
Teachers
Non teaching personnel
Students

What ARE its duties?

Carry out a diagnosis of the School to determine priority areas for action.

Determine indicators to evaluate activities and the results of the project.

Provide the necessary resources to undertake the project.

Monitor the initiation of specific proposals as these arise.

Report to the appropriate body (institutions, educational community, other schools, etc.) concerning the activities and proposals that have been made.

Take part in the Municipal Forum.

And…how can I take part?

By helping in the acquisition of values, attitudes and habits that help us to provide an education in sustainability.

Through reciprocal collaboration with the School, by sending out coherent messages and by developing a shared educational policy.

By forming part of the Environment Committee.

By collaborating in activities proposed by the School and by a trying to "learn" within the family.

By taking part in activities and by contributing suggestions and ideas.

By taking an active part in promoting environmental sustainability by collaborating with associations, by valuing what is common to everyone, by getting to know and respecting our natural and cultural heritage, by supporting and taking part in environmental management, and so on.
