Célula Europa

Célula Europa

During the 2004-2005 academic year, our School joined the Célula Europa within the Sow and Grow innovation project.  As its name suggests, the aim of this project is to foster the idea of Europe in schools.

Everyone in the School, department heads, teachers, parents and student representatives have become involved in this initiative.

Célula Europa is an expression of our wish to open ourselves to Europe, as an opportunity for the future, to grow as citizens that support democratic values and to enable a level of coexistence characterised by progress and well-being in which there is a respect for the liberty and identity of each of the peoples that form part of Europe.

Aims:

  • Create and foster an awareness of European citizenship.
  • Provide information about Europe: the process by which it has been formed, its languages, its peoples and its states.
  • Promote the study of European languages.
  • Take part in exchange, cultural and youth projects with other schools with similar characteristics to ours within the European Union.
  • Take part in European celebrations, competitions and initiatives.

Celebration of Europe Day:

When we notice the words "Europe Day" beside the date May 9 in our diaries or calendars, we wonder what happened that day and there are very few European citizens who know that the European Community was set up on May 9 1950.

That date has become a European symbol which, together with the single currency, the flag and hymn, identifies the political identity of the European Union.

Europe Day is a day of celebration but it is also a time and for reflection and for this reason, all the students in our School, from Infants to Vocational Training, take part in activities programmed to commemorate May 9.

Prizes:

In the Europe in the School Programme Competition (2004-2005), the work of four of our students were awarded prizes.

In the Euroscola 2006 Competition, students from the second year of E.S.O. (Compulsory Secondary Education) obtained the FIRST PRIZE for the Province of Alava.
